"Oyster shell recovery, reuse and recycling program. Oyster shell is the best, most natural material used to rebuild oyster reefs and it’s in short supply. To save this ecologically important byproduct, ORP created the Shell Recycling Alliance in 2010 to reclaim shell, free of charge, from restaurants and other seafood businesses. Shells that otherwise would be dumped in landfills are now recycled, cleaned, treated with baby oysters and put back into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. One recycled oyster shell can become a home for 10+ baby oysters. Here's how to participate: -Dine at shell recycling restaurants: https://www.oysterrecovery.org/oyster-shell-recycling-alliance-members -Buy local oysters and recycle the shells at public drop sites: https://www.oysterrecovery.org/sra/public-shell-drop-off-locations -ORP regularly picks up shell from restaurants and other businesses: https://www.oysterrecovery.org/get-involved/shell-recycling"
